Home Again Begins Search for New Developers to Build Quality, Affordable Homes in DC

(Washington, DC) The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) today began a new year of Mayor Williams' Home Again initiative by publishing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for developers to participate in the program.

Through Home Again, the District gains site control of vacant and abandoned properties to sell them to developers who renovate them into quality, affordable homes. "If you rent, Home Again can help you own. If you're looking to buy, Home Again can make it more affordable," said Eric Price, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.

About the RFQ Process

Responses to the RFQ are due by Monday, March 31, 2003 at 8 am. After staff reviews and recommendations, and further review by a panel of experts, Mayor Williams will announce the pre-qualified developers in June 2003.

In the application, developers are asked to describe their experience with financing, renovating housing, and building new single-family homes. Based on the developers' past experience, developers can be qualified to bid and work on parcels of 5, 10, 15 or 20 properties during a year.

Interested developers are encouraged to attend a Home Again pre-proposal conference on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 8 am. The conference will take place at 441 4th Street, NW, in the first floor conference room on the south side. Applications can be downloaded at the DMPED website. Click the Home Again Initiative link and look under Becoming a Qualified Developer.
