The District's current housing market is unprecedented. Home sales are at an all time high, and more units are being built than ever before in recent history. Almost 3,000 units were recently completed, and 4,000 are under construction. There are 6,700 units in their advanced planning stages, and another 3,300 are soon to be proposed. In downtown alone, 3,700 units are under construction or in advanced planning stages.
Since fiscal year 1999, the Williams Administration helped finance almost 9,000 units of affordable housing. Every year, the agencies have steadily increased their production.
